Nexstar’s NewsNation and Local TV Station KXAN-TV in Austin, TX, Receive National Edward R. Murrow Awards for Outstanding Journalism and Exceptionally Produced Content
NewsNation Wins its First National Murrow Award in Network TV Division for “Excellence in Video”
Austin TV Station Recognized for “Excellence in Innovation”
IRVING, TX (August 14, 2025) – Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST), today announced that the company’s national cable news network, NewsNation, and its television station in Austin, Texas (DMA #34), KXAN-TV (NBC), have each earned a national Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). NewsNation was recognized for “Excellence in Video” and KXAN-TV for “Excellence in Innovation.”
- Network TV: Excellence in Video – NewsNation earned recognition for “Growing Broke: Forever Chemicals in America’s Heartland.” This is the network’s first Edward R. Murrow award, earned in just its first year as a full-time news network. Reporter and anchor Natasha Zouves investigated the silent crisis of toxic “forever chemicals” and fertilizer poisoning the land of farmers and food supply in the United States. https://f.io/vdzbhoHW
“NewsNation is dedicated to delivering engaging and unbiased news that reflects the full range of perspectives across the country, and we are ecstatic that our work has been recognized with its first ever national Edward R. Murrow award,” said Michael Corn, President of Programming & Specials for NewsNation. “Congratulations to Natasha Zouves and the team on this outstanding achievement.”
Earlier this year, NewsNation earned its first-ever News & Documentary Emmy Award when Ms. Zouves was recognized with an Emmy as Outstanding Emerging Journalist.
- Large Market Television: Excellence in Innovation – KXAN-TV in Austin, TX, was honored with the Excellence in Innovation award in the Large Market Television division for its work on “A Hanging on Backbone Creek: Unraveling Texas’ Antiquated Death Investigations.”
The mysterious death of 13-year-old Daynon Lewis haunts the town of Marble Falls, TX, nearly 60 years after her body was discovered hanging in a shed behind her family’s home. Quickly ruled an accidental strangulation by a local justice of the peace, questions linger about this case and others nearby. KXAN’s reporting exposed an antiquated process still used in most Texas counties that gives certain elected officials the power to determine cause and manner of death with scant training and often without autopsies or forensic expertise.
During KXAN’s reporting, Texas lawmakers resumed their efforts to modernize this dubious system and initiated a fresh review of Miss Lewis’s case.

“The national Edward R. Murrow award won by KXAN-TV highlights the work of our journalists across the company and their commitment to innovation in storytelling, trusted broadcast journalism, exceptional public service, and community involvement,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “We are honored and grateful to the RTDNA for recognizing KXAN-TV.”
In addition to the national honors won today, Nexstar news operations at 28 of its owned and operated television stations earned a total of 52 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards earlier this year.
The RTDNA has been recognizing outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971.
