Nexstar Broadcasting Group purchased WJHL, a CBS and ABC affiliate when they acquired Media General in 2016. News Channel 11 was the most honored media organization in Tennessee by the Associated Press in 2015 & 2016 and has captured more than a hundred Associated Press awards since 2012.  The station has also won several Edward R. Murrow awards for investigative journalism and continuing coverage.  WJHL has been the CBS affiliate for the Tri-Cities market for more than 60 years.  On February 1, 2016, launched ABC Tri-Cities on 11.2. News Channel 11 and ABC Tri-Cities focuses on investigative and accountability coverage in our community.  Our website, WJHL.com, has been named “Best Website” by the Tennessee Associated Press for the last three years.

WJHL is also focused on being a positive force in our community.  We work with our clients to provide school supplies to hundreds of students across our community during our annual school supplies giveaway. News Channel 11 is also active in Kingsport Funfest, Food City Family Race night & many other community events throughout the year.  News Channel 11 and ABC Tri-Cities syndicated programming includes, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz and The Steve Harvey Show.

The Tri-Cities Market is home to Johnson City, TN, Kingsport, TN, & Bristol, VA . Bristol is home to the Bristol Motor Speedway, the fastest half-mile nascar track in the US. Cable/ ADS penetration in the market is estimated to be 52%. Some of the largest employers in this market are East Tennessee State University, Mountain States Health Alliance and Eastman Chemical.
