Chicago, IL – September 3, 2025 – Mary Sandberg Boyle, the first female Vice President and General Manager in WGN Radio’s 100-year history, has been named a finalist in Radio Ink’s 33rd annual Radio Wayne Awards, the industry’s longest-running and most prestigious honor celebrating excellence in radio sales, marketing, and management. The awards will be presented at the opening of the NAB Show New York on Wednesday, October 22, at 10:00 a.m.
Boyle is one of only five finalists nominated for General Manager of the Year (Markets 1–20), selected from hundreds of entries submitted by broadcasters nationwide. Since its inception, the Radio Wayne Awards have honored more than 1,500 of the industry’s top sales and management professionals.
In addition to this most recent honor, Boyle has been recognized on Radio Ink’s Most Influential Women in Radio list for four consecutive years (2021–2025) and was also named one of Radio Ink’s Best Managers in Radio in both 2024 and 2025.

She spearheaded the launch of the weekday morning business program The Opening Bell in 2016 and has held a variety of leadership positions, including Executive Producer, Contributor, and Director of News and Operations. In September 2019, she was named Acting General Manager before being officially promoted to Vice President and General Manager in 2020.
Her career spans more than 25 years in Chicago radio, including serving as Executive Producer for The Steve Dahl Show and the WBBM 96.3-FM Morning Show. A proud Chicagoland native and graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Boyle currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Broadcasters Association, Better Business Bureau of Greater Chicago’s Board of Directors and volunteers with The Ross K.
